You can't go wrong with this Dark Star. Comments welcome.
Arguably, the last great Scarlet/Fire--Grateful Dead Seattle 5/26/95

This may be the best listening experience available of this particular Scarlet/Fire. See the bottom of the description for details why. Personally, I love this one, but you can judge for yourself. My editing notes: I mended (crossfaded) the sound board recording in two places where it was cut, so there are a couple bars missing at two points of the recording, both occurring during the transitio...

Tasty Sandwich: Playin'/Uncle/Dew/Uncle/Playin'--Grateful Dead 11/17/73

Grateful Dead @ Pauley Pavilion, UCLA Playin' holds this jam together as the bookends, sandwiching Uncle, which sandwiches Morning Dew. This medley will satisfy any Dead Head.
The whole jam: Saint/NFA/Stephen/Dew @ Barton Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Seamless I put a little time in to restore this legendary medley close to its original state, making this matrix copy flow from song to song, like the cassette copy I've had for 20 years...better than a CD that pauses between track changes...yet better than the sound quality of the cassette... I got rid of the track changes that occur with a CD).

One of the best Black Peter performances ever--Grateful Dead 4/27/91

This was a great '91 show, but this song was the highlight for many Dead Heads. The end of it borders between genius and chaos.
I love how Jerry often doesn't even do the second verse of dark star, but here they do a whole other song before getting to it
Hate to say this I really do. But Darkstar rarely does "it" for me. Its like Space with 45 seconds of magical singing. Sure the bassline is swinging but to me it just never really is the thing it seems to be for so many. I know im gonna get my head chopped off for this but give me a weather report suite or help/slip/tower any day over any darkstar

Hey witch es what s up.❤
If God said hey ,I can bring you to paradise, what would you say ,or do , I'd say hey Satan what should I do.??
Sometimes you just feel ok
No amount of Sphere visuals can replace the original sound and the time and place. Enough with the technology. Time to get back to authentic tripping.
looking for a wharf rat found this truly beautiful one...thanks man
For me the Beautiful Jam is a deep imprint of that era not just in the Dead world but in American society writ large. There is something about it that just always expresses that feeling. Chills every time.
I wonder since we can, well some of us appreciate really beautiful pieces of music and their uniqueness from 100 plus years ago. Even 200 and 300 years, and that if someone from back then who understood music and or someone like Beethoven or Mozart would appreciate this for what it is? These are very complex pieces of music. I'm sure they be appalled at first because of the electric instruments and loudness, but giving time to study the structure of the pieces what would they think?
Datk Star Flashes?? How many times did he sing it like that?
Beautiful...❤
IT
First saw the Dead in 1985. My life was never the same since that day. The world would be a much better place if Jerry was still alive, certainly more bearable.
heard this for the first time in '68 at the Gill Coliseum in Corvallis Oregon. I was 16 or 17 and high on LSD . I am forever grateful to the the Dead.
Wow
❤
Best Start in holiday with beer and weed💚💙💜
This music comes from the radiance of Creation

Started age 11, just passed 50 and still here. Music will never stop being music, to me.
Started at 14, still obsessed at 61. Still finding surprises.
My first and last show. 17 yrs old. First LSD experience. Me and my best friend from 3rd grade took some white blotter for our first time someone gave us. We were with my two older brothers and we had a group of 20 + dead head all their friends who were on the bus and had finally returned home to seatown. Was a breezy sunny spring twighlight sunset 🌅 with space needle soaring. friends all sitting up on the wall up front. I grew up playing football on that field , but oh wow was this is different experience. Has lasted with me every day since 30 yrs later. Truly magical and life altering. Thank you 🙏 ❤ GD and Jerry.
“To believe in God is to know that all the rules will be fair, and that there will be wonderful surprises.” - Ugo Betti = a wharf rat @U2 ;)
One of the more magical Dark Stars, but you didn't need me to tell you that.
I am so high
53 Years Ago Today
Wharf rat still keeps surprised the older I get.
This is aptly named….Beautiful jam…..when Phil heard this 40 yrs later he cried…..
While this music is beautiful Lesh was in the throws of depression caused by Jerry’s death at the time. I’ve heard Billy & Bobby talk about past concerts specifically fan favorites & they have almost zero memory of any eras. Everything pre 1985 (when they’d finally had enough of Jerry’s self destructive behavior followed by his coma in ‘86) blends together which makes sense I guess. Neither Billy nor Bobby say 1977 stands out to them in any way despite it being their best year + 1974 only stands out to them bc they were so worn out which is also crazy bc that’s their “other” top year.
Oh cold chills! The Holy Dark Star❤️⚡️💙
A masterpiece. It almost hurts to listen because of how deep the memories of my youth go. I loved a girl named Sandy who will always be my link to those days.
Be you t ful😊
Hallelujah Brothers and Sisters! Let us pray!
None of the late 80s and early 90s stars hold a candle to the golden age of 69-74. More than half of this doesn't even sound like Dark Star. It is space. Good space, but space. It is good and interesting, but there are easily 30 Stars from the golden age that I would reach for ahead of this. The best 80s Star is without question Berkeley 84. That has a pure lyricism that this one only approaches. Lyricism is the core of Dark Star. The further any Star gets from lyricism the less it is a Star. Other One, Playing -- those are different. Lyricism is less critical in those and in other great Dead jams. But the essence of Dark Star is lyricism. As Bob announces at the beginning of one of the best 60s stars (10-12-68) "This number is a foxtrot"
beautiful midi horns :) no oner did midi horns and flutes like jerry..... i am old deadhead, it is a touch sad to see jerry still working to pay other peoples bills.... 6 months b4 he passed....... jerry garcia, an american treasure :)
Jerry and Branford trading lick for lick.
Weir and Phil are fabulous on this as well.
There were moments during this era when the boys would climb back down from wherever the hell they'd been poking around, find themselves on stage. They'd look at each other with an unspoken "anybody remember what we were playing, or have an idea where to go next?" expression. Just noodle for a bit and somebody will catch a thread so we can all jump back on. Magic stuff.
My funeral music
ALL HAIL THE DIRTY WIZARD 🧙♂️🗽FIYO FIYO⚡☀️🌠〽️ He was so far gone this tour he needed a monitor w lyrics like karaOKE because he didnt know them......YET he still pulled off this fire on the mountain in what I like to call peoples Flashes Of Greatness. So happy to read all the stories here and people that were there.
What a fabulous pair drawn out and jamming all over the board. Thanks whoever recorded and posted this stuff, can't thank you enough for the incredible improv. RIP Jerry, Keith, Ron, Brent, thanks for making and leaving us these gems. Peace, goodwill, and great listening right back atcha. Underrated band, continually blowing me away with each new rendition I find. Thanks thanks thanks. God bless 'em.
Such soul in this music . Fabulous ❤❤❤
The return to Dark Star after the Rat is stunning. Jerry's fat leads are gorgeous. A mile wide. Must be a Les Paul.
My first Dead show. I was hooked by the second tune, "Here Comes Sunshine." I saw over a hundred more over the next 20 years or so.
This is honestly one of my absolute favorite versions of both these songs
Wow, it’s rare to find something from 95 that’s interesting to listen to. Nice
Classic and poignant grateful dead
Holy Crap!
Live Dead is far better
The absolute true recovery anthem, so true, so very very true…..
" Very true and very yuge... Very good song... Very yuge band.... Mmmk. I met'em , good people. Very good people. Mmmk.... I like em alot... Good guys.. Met'em all .... Very good and very yuge.
